Why are highways paved with asphalt?

[2020/2/20]

Nowadays, if you travel by car or on business, you always have to go through the highway. Nowadays, the expressways in most cities are paved with asphalt. Why are the expressways paved with asphalt instead of reinforced concrete?

Reinforced concrete is more common in our life, because it is strong, our many buildings are made of reinforced concrete materials, since this reinforced concrete is so strong, why not use it in the highway? Is asphalt stronger than it? In fact, the reason is that asphalt has strong plastic ability.

The building in our house is reinforced concrete, so it is not difficult for us to find that cracks will appear in the walls when time goes by.If we use reinforced concrete to biuld the road    some large trucks pass by, then the concrete pavement will slowly appear a lot of cracks.

This is mainly because the material of concrete, its material will be affected by seasonal and temperature changes, and the asphalt road is different . It is more elastic and it will not be affected by weather and other factors like concrete . So asphalt is more suitable to be paved on the highway material. Moreover, there are some differences between the two in maintenance.

It will take a long time when the reinforced concrete pavement needs to be repaired, because the solidification time is longer, and it is easy to cause congestion on the highway; while the asphalt solidification time is shorter than concrete. It will soon dry, maintenance costs are also lower.

For drivers, reinforced concrete road is not good for braking. The pavement has no friction. Especially in rainy days ,it is easy to slip, which will lead to accidents. And the reinforced concrete road is white, it is easy to produce visual fatigue . While asphalt road is black, it doesnt have this problem.
